Quarantine reduced to just 5 days starting from April 4, 2022

From April 4, 2022 the Royal Government of Bhutan has reduced quarantine for those who have received full COVID-19 vaccination to 5 days while unvaccinated travellers will have to undergo 10 days quarantine.


The tourists will not be charged Minimum Daily Package Rate for their trip during the quarantine period. However, tourists will have to bear the cost of quarantine facilities including the cost of RT-PCR and ATK tests. The cost of the trip which is Minimum Daily Package Rate will be charged only from the day the quarantine period is completed.

Bhutan may lift quarantine this fall

If all things go well as planned, the quarantine may be lifted from September 2022. After the quarantine is reduced to 5 days from April 4, the government will evaluate the situation and see how things develop before lifting the quarantine. By the end of summer, the government expects majority of Bhutanese to have developed a hybrid immunity of vaccines and infections and the transmission cases to be lower.

The Royal Government of Bhutan is putting in place every measure necessary to safeguard the people of Bhutan and visitors from the COVID-19. As of May 16th 2022, Bhutan recorded 59,574 positive cases out of which 59,509 have fully recovered. So far Bhutan recorded 21 death. The local residents are well aware of health and safety measures put in place. More than 90% of the population are fully vaccinated with booster shots as well.

  • Do I have to quarantine upon arriving in Bhutan?

    Starting from April 4, 2022 quarantine will be reduced to 5 days for fully vaccinated and those who are unvaccinated will have to undergo 10 days of quarantine. Negative RT-PCR test taken prior to arrival NOT required as of May 2022. You will stay in a government-designated Clean and Safe Plus tourist standard quarantine facility inspected and certified by competent authorities.

  • Do I have to pay for the quarantine facilities?

    You will have to bear the cost of the quarantine facilities including the cost of RT-PCR tests. During the quarantine, you are exempted from paying the minimum daily package rate.

  • Am I charged the full tour cost during quarantine period?

    You do not have to pay the minimum daily package rate during the quarantine period. However, you have to pay for the quarantine facilities including the cost of the RT-PCR test. The cost of the tour which is the minimum daily package rate will be charged only from the day you complete quarantine.

  • What are the procedures upon arrival at the airport?
    • Upon your arrival, your temperature will be measured.
    • Luggage will be disinfected
    • Show your e-Visa letter at the immigration counter. Your Visa will be stamped on your passport

    • Pre-departure negative RT-PCR test NOT required as of May 2022

    • Travellers with signs and symptoms will be tested at the airport.
    • Travellers will be escorted to the Clean and Safe Plus Quarantine Facility inspected regularly and certified by the relevant authorities.
  • Can I postpone my trip and what options do I have?

    We understand that sometimes things don't go according to plan. We remain fully committed to offering flexible departure dates to suit your travel plans. Tour once booked can be postponed to any future date with the option to rebook or change tour without any fees. You also have 30 days before the departure to receive a full refund should you decide to cancel the trip.

  • Can I change my tour after it has been postponed?

    We remain fully committed to being flexible and offering a wide range of options. We can discuss together to amend the existing itinerary or change to a different tour. The price of the new tour may change depending on the duration and season.

  • What health and safety measures are being taken to minimize the chances of getting infected?
    • You’ll be tested on RT-PCR on Day 1 of the quarantine which is the next day after you arrive and again on Day 5 . You’ll be released on Day 6 upon testing negative. The cost per test is Nu.3,000.00 (approx $42).
    • You must wear facemask at public places and while interacting with local people.
    • Follow the generic preventive measures at all times.
    • You must download "Druk Trace" app from Apple App Store for iOS and  Google Play Store for Android. You’ll use this app to scan QR Code put in place at most of the attraction sites so that the authorities can trace the visitors in case there is COVID-19 outbreak in the area. You will need local SIM card for this app to function. You can purchase SIM card at the airport upon arrival. Wi-fi internet connections at some hotels are quite weak so having the local SIM card will enable you to stay connected to the internet. You may have to purchase data package available in many local shops.
    • You’ll be tested if you show any signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and if found positive, you’ll be moved to isolation facility for further care and support.
    • Social distance may be enforced at the attraction sites.
  • What happens if I test positive during the tour?

    If you show any signs and symptoms of COVID-19, you have to take a test. In case you test positive, you'll be moved to an isolation facility for further care and support. It is mandatory to have travel insurance with COVID-19 coverage. We are required to submit your insurance certificate along with other relevant documents while applying for visa.

  • What if something happens during the tour?

    Your safety and comfort are our priority. Our guides are trained to respond to and manage emergencies if they arise, from personal health concerns to injuries. If necessary, they can mobilize additional support.

  • What happens if the border gets closed?

    If the border gets closed due to travel restrictions imposed by the Royal Government of Bhutan, we will immediately work with you to offer rebooking options. Should you decide to cancel the trip, you will get a 100% refund including the visa fee.

  • When will Bhutan fully reopen without having to quarantine ?

    If all things go well as planned, the quarantine may be lifted from September 2022. After the quarantine is reduced to 5 days from April 4, the government will evaluate the situation and see how things develop before lifting the quarantine.
